Your voice stays with you. Here’s exactly what Hum keeps, and why.

Privacy

Last updated 14 October 2026

The short version

  • Your voice is analysed on your own device. Recordings are never uploaded.
  • Without an account, everything Hum keeps stays in your browser.
  • No ads, no analytics, no trackers, no third-party scripts.
  • An account, reminders, share links and the leaderboard are all optional.

On your device

Hum measures your voice in your browser. Your saved checks (the numbers, not the audio), practice progress, goal, settings and XP are kept in your browser’s storage. If the voice diary is on, the reading from each saved check is kept in your browser too. Diary recordings are never uploaded, synced or put in backups.

If shake to report is on, Hum watches your phone’s motion for a firm shake, on the device only. Motion readings aren’t kept or sent.

You can download a backup, or delete everything, in Settings.

If you make an account

An account lets you sync between devices. We keep your email address, your password as a one-way hash (Argon2), and what you sync: saved checks and their notes, practice progress, your goal and targets, program progress and a few preferences. Signing in sets one cookie, used only to keep you signed in, for up to 180 days.

You can delete your synced data, or your whole account, in Settings at any time. Deleting your account removes everything we hold for it straight away.

Email and reminders

We email you only for your account (like a password reset) and for reminders you turn on. Every reminder has a link to stop them. If you turn on reminders on a device, we keep that browser’s push subscription so we can send them; turning reminders off deletes it.

Share links

If you make a share link, anyone with it can see the progress you chose to share (never your email address). You can see how often it was opened, give it an end date, or turn it off at any time.

The leaderboard

Joining is optional and needs no account. You get a random name, like Gentle Heron 417, and you choose whether to show a country. We keep that name, the country, your XP for each week, and a hash of a random key that stays on your device. Scores are kept for 8 weeks, and entries unused for 180 days are removed. Leaving deletes your entry straight away.

Bug reports

If you report a problem, we keep what you write, your email address if you give one (so we can reply), and the technical details you choose to include, which you can see before sending. Reports are deleted after 90 days.

Running the website

Hum is served through Cloudflare, which protects and speeds up the site. Our server is in Germany. Like most websites, it keeps an access log (the time, the page asked for, your IP address and country, and your browser’s name) to keep the service secure and to fix problems. The log is deleted after 14 days. Hum’s own server doesn’t keep IP addresses; it uses them only for a moment, to stop abuse.

Questions

Email [email protected]. You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask anything else about your data.
